Preparing for potty training

Understanding your Boxer puppy's behavior is key to successful potty training. Boxers are intelligent and eager to please, but they also have their unique quirks. By understanding their behavior, you can tailor your approach to their specific needs.

Boxers are known for their high energy levels and playful nature. They thrive on positive reinforcement and respond well to rewards-based training. However, they can also be stubborn at times. It's important to be patient and consistent in your training efforts.

When it comes to potty training, Boxers have a natural instinct to keep their living area clean. This instinct can work in your favor, as they will have a natural inclination to avoid soiling their designated potty area. Understanding this behavior will help you create a successful potty training plan.

To effectively potty train your Boxer puppy, you need to establish a clear and consistent routine. This routine should include regular potty breaks, meal times, and play sessions. By understanding and working with your Boxer's behavior, you can create a training plan that sets both of you up for success.

           Establishing a potty training routine

Before diving into potty training, it's important to prepare your home and set your Boxer puppy up for success. Here are some essential steps to take before starting the potty training process:

           1. Designate a potty area: Choose a specific spot in your yard where you want your Boxer puppy to do their business. This will help them understand where they should go to relieve themselves.

           2. Invest in the right supplies: Purchase the necessary supplies for potty training, such as a crate, puppy pads, and cleaning products. These items will make the training process smoother and more manageable.

           3. Create a safe environment: Puppy-proof your home by removing any hazards or items that your Boxer puppy might chew on or swallow. This will ensure their safety during the potty training process.

By taking these preparatory steps, you can create a conducive environment for successful potty training. Remember, preparation is key to making the training process as smooth as possible for both you and your Boxer puppy.

Maintaining consistency and patience throughout the process

Establishing a consistent potty training routine is crucial for teaching your Boxer puppy where and when to go potty. The key to success is consistency and patience. Here's how you can establish a routine:

           1. Set a schedule: Determine the times when you will take your Boxer puppy outside to go potty. These times should be consistent throughout the day. For example, take them out first thing in the morning, after meals, and before bedtime.

           2. Use verbal cues: Choose a specific word or phrase to associate with potty time. Use this cue consistently every time you take your Boxer puppy outside. This will help them understand what is expected of them.

           3. Reward good behavior: When your Boxer puppy successfully goes potty in the designated area, praise them and give them a treat. Positive reinforcement will reinforce the desired behavior and encourage them to continue going potty in the right place.

Remember, accidents will happen, especially in the early stages of potty training. Stay patient and consistent with your routine, and your Boxer puppy will eventually catch on to the desired behavior.

           Celebrating success

Positive reinforcement is a highly effective technique for potty training your Boxer puppy. By rewarding good behavior, you can motivate them to repeat the desired actions. Here are some positive reinforcement techniques to implement during potty training:

           1. Use treats: When your Boxer puppy successfully goes potty in the designated area, reward them with a small, tasty treat. This will create a positive association with the behavior and reinforce their understanding of where they should go.

           2. Offer praise and affection: Along with treats, give your Boxer puppy plenty of verbal praise and affection after they go potty in the right place. Positive attention will strengthen the bond between you and reinforce their understanding of what is expected.

           3. Create a reward system: Consider implementing a reward system where your Boxer puppy can earn special rewards, such as a favorite toy or extra playtime, for consistent potty training success. This will provide additional motivation for them to continue the desired behavior.

Remember, consistency is key when using positive reinforcement techniques. Be patient and persistent, and your Boxer puppy will learn to associate going potty in the right place with positive rewards.

           Dealing with accidents and setbacks

Accidents and setbacks are a normal part of the potty training process, especially with energetic Boxer puppies. It's important to handle these situations with patience and understanding. Here's how to deal with accidents and setbacks:

           1. Stay calm: When accidents happen, it's crucial to stay calm and avoid getting frustrated or angry. Boxer puppies are sensitive to your emotions, and negative reactions can hinder their progress.

           2. Clean up properly: Clean accidents promptly and thoroughly using an enzymatic cleaner specifically designed to neutralize pet odors. This will help eliminate any lingering scent that might attract your Boxer puppy back to the same spot.

           3. Revisit the basics: If your Boxer puppy starts having accidents after showing progress, it's important to revisit the basics of potty training. Ensure you're following a consistent routine and reinforcing good behavior with rewards.

Remember, setbacks are a normal part of the potty training journey. Stay patient, reinforce positive behavior, and continue following the steps outlined in this guide. With time and consistency, your Boxer puppy will become fully potty trained.

Crate training and its role in potty training

Crate training is an essential tool for potty training your Boxer puppy. When used correctly, a crate can provide a safe and comfortable space for your puppy while also encouraging them to hold their bladder and bowels. Here's how crate training can help with potty training:

           1. Choose the right crate: Select a crate that is the appropriate size for your Boxer puppy. It should be large enough for them to stand, turn around, and lie down comfortably, but not so large that they can use one end as a potty area.

           2. Introduce the crate gradually: Make the crate a positive and inviting space for your Boxer puppy by gradually introducing them to it. Start by leaving the crate door open and placing treats or toys inside to entice them to explore.

           3. Establish a crate training routine: Encourage your Boxer puppy to spend short periods in the crate throughout the day. Gradually increase the duration as they become more comfortable. Use verbal cues to associate the crate with potty breaks.

Crate training can help prevent accidents when you can't directly supervise your Boxer puppy. However, it's important to remember that the crate should not be used as a punishment. It should be a safe and comfortable space for your puppy to relax and rest.

Gradual transition to outdoor potty training

As your Boxer puppy becomes more familiar with the potty training routine, you can start transitioning from indoor to outdoor potty training. Here's how to make a gradual transition:

           1. Supervise outdoor potty breaks: Accompany your Boxer puppy outside during potty breaks and observe their behavior. Use verbal cues to remind them of their potty training commands.

           2. Phase out indoor options: Gradually reduce the use of indoor options, such as puppy pads, as your Boxer puppy becomes more reliable at going potty outside. This will help them understand that the outdoor area is the preferred place to go.

           3. Reward outdoor success: When your Boxer puppy successfully goes potty outside, reward them with praise and treats. This will reinforce the desired behavior and encourage them to continue going potty in the right place.

Remember, consistency is key during the transition phase. Be patient and provide clear guidance to help your Boxer puppy understand the new expectations.

           Conclusion

Consistency and patience are paramount throughout the potty training process. Here are some tips to help you maintain these essential qualities:

           1. Stick to the routine: Follow the established potty training routine consistently. Take your Boxer puppy outside at the designated times and use the same verbal cues and commands.

           2. Be patient with accidents: Accidents are bound to happen, especially in the beginning. Stay calm, clean up accidents promptly, and continue reinforcing positive behavior.

           3. Avoid punishment: Never punish your Boxer puppy for accidents or setbacks. This can create fear and anxiety, hindering their progress. Instead, focus on positive reinforcement and redirecting their behavior.

Remember, potty training takes time and effort. Stay consistent, be patient, and celebrate every small success along the way. With dedication and positive reinforcement, your Boxer puppy will become fully potty trained.

Originally, the Boxer breed’s purpose was a bull-baiting dog or
controlling cattle at the slaughterhouses. Most breed historians agree
that the name “Boxer” comes from the German word “boxl.” Others say the
name Boxer came from the distinct way Boxer puppies play with their
forepaws, almost as if they were boxing!

Boxers played a part in World War 1. They were used to carry packs,
attack dogs, and to carry important messages. Both Germany and France
utilized the Boxer breed during the war.

Boxers came to the United States shortly after World War 1. After a few
decades, they quickly became one of the most popular breeds in America.
Many soldiers returning from Germany after World War 2 brought home
Boxers. They’ve been considered a working dog. In fact, they were one of
the first breeds to be used as a police dog and a sightseeing dog. They
became one of the most popular breeds due to being a great guard dog
but also having the ability to show family-friendly behavior.

One of the most important health conditions as a Boxer owner that you should be aware of is Degenerative Myelopathy. This dangerous disease will often start with mild symptoms like your Boxer losing balance while walking. There aren’t any cures for this unfortunately, but medicines are available that can lead your Boxer living as close to as normal of a life as possible.

Due to the genetics of Boxer dogs, Boxer Cardiomyopathy is a high-risk disease for this specific breed. This disease prevents the Boxer’s heart from pumping blood efficiently around their body. Fainting spells are an important effect to pay attention to. This disease is dangerous because it can lead to sudden heart failure. Thankfully, there is a medicine that is available that can help mitigate the disease. Most Boxers will start to show symptoms of Boxer Cardiomyopathy at two years or earlier.

Bloat is another health problem to pay attention for. Simply put: overeating and lack of exercise can cause this. Most Boxers have massive
appetites but you as the owner can control how much food is given. Too much food can cause their stomach to rupture and require surgery. And if this goes undetected it can lead to death.

Be a responsible owner and feed your Boxer properly. They rely on you to pay close attention to health side effects of them. Early detection can lead to many more years added on to what could be cut short.

Most veterinarians agree that the adult Boxer breed should get about two hours of exercise a day. Over the course of a year, this can be raised — start at smaller increments of thirty minutes. Boxer puppies should not exceed one exercise per day and not more than twenty minutes in their first year.

The easiest way to give your Boxer proper exercise is by taking them outside! What Boxer wouldn’t love to be outside? And you can let them
outside in as early as the time they get their third round of shots!

Other ideas your Boxer would love is playing fetch with a frisbee or a tennis ball. Or another great form of exercise is letting your Boxer follow you on your bike! In that manner, both of you will be able to get great exercise hours in! Or try Swimming! That is another great way for you and your Boxer to get simultaneous physical activity. Just like humans, it is not recommended for Boxers to exercise until at least an hour after eating. For more intense forms of exercise, it should be at least 2 hours. It’s suggested to space out a morning exercise and an evening exercise, and if your Boxer doggie is planning on sleeping within the next hour, it’s also a time to wait on the

           The Basics

The boxer dog is a popular dog breed in the world, especially in the United States of America. In fact, according to the 2013 American Kennel Club statistics, it is the seventh most popular breed in the United States, a spot it has held for four years. Their sturdy and robust physical appearance, coupled with the fact that they are one of the most trustworthy and intelligent breeds, explains why many people are fascinated about them. Specific features such as their sharpness, alertness, agility, meticulousness, suspicion of strangers/intruders have made them a top choice for people looking for guard dogs. This explains why they have been employed for police and military operations.

Now, the richness of the boxer dog temperament is, just like that of most of the other dog breeds, dependent on the level of training it has received. Hence, your boxer dog may not attain his full natural strength and potential if you do not train him the way you ought to. When properly trained from a young age, you can have an obedient, smart, and intelligent dog. This is why you must begin to house-train your boxer dog early enough (we advise that you start when he is three and a half weeks old). However, before you begin to train your dog, you have to understand the distinctiveness of the breed so as to avoid tampering with his temperament. For this reason, we have prepared a simple guide on how to effectively house-train your boxer dog.

           Understand Your Dog’s Features:

An understanding of the boxer dog breed’s temperament will put you in a better position to be able to relate and interact with them. You must know the characteristic of your dog and this is the first and most important thing to note when training your boxer dog. Generally, boxer dogs are known for their love and affection for those who are close to them while they tend to be a little aggressive and hostile towards strange faces. They are also extremely loyal and very willing to be submissive and learn. They are found, most of the time, to be cheerful and happy.

           Understand Your Dog’s Temperament

An understanding of the breed’s temperament helps make boxer dog house training a lot easier. When they exhibit some strange behaviors, you immediately know what is causing such behaviors. This, in the long run, will help you manage the dog’s mental and emotional health better, and achieve an effective boxer dog house training.

           Early Socialization

Since the boxer dog breed is naturally hostile to anything strange in the home (man, animal, or any moving object), to begin to socialize them early enough is just the apt step to take. This will expose them quickly to other people, animals, and things, causing them to be mentally stable.

Boxer dogs love to play and hang out with people just like humans. They are happier when they are raised from their puppyhood to meet and relate with a range of other persons and things. Taking them out occasionally to meet with friends and family members will be a really nice thing to do. If you keep other pets, getting him used to seeing and interacting with them early enough will be the right thing to do. Without being properly socialized, a boxer dog might grow up with tendencies to be rebellious, barking loudly, biting visitors, etc.

           Begin Potty-Training Early Enough

The best time to start is when your boxer dog is around six to seven weeks old. At six or seven weeks, they are beginning to understand training clearly and are also old enough to learn actively. Now, potty training boxer dogs is one of the most important house-trainings you want to give them. This is why it is important to start early enough. As a matter of fact, the earlier one begins potty training a boxer dog, the easier and better it is. They are more difficult to potty-train when they are three months old or older.

Potty train your pet, the first step you should take is to choose a location or spot in your home where you would like him potty. After you have established this, the next thing is to do is to observe the times he tends to be ready to eliminate or feels like going to potty. Sometimes, you can tell when he is ready to go potty when he exhibits certain signs as sniffing about, whimpering, moving almost cyclically, etc. Now, with a rough idea of the times your pet tends to potty, you should always ensure that you take him to that spot or location you have chosen (for him to always go to potty) at those times you think he is likely to potty. Then, you should hang around there until it has gone potty. Having done that, giving it some treat as a reward wouldn’t be a bad idea.

Ensure that the potty-training is effective enough by being firm and consistent. Take your boxer dog to the spot or location at regular times of the day. To be able to tell the times your pet is pressed, it is important that you maintain a regular and consistent feeding schedule. Consistently potty training your boxer dog from his puppyhood days will ensure that it grows with an understanding of when and where to potty. That way, it will be able to hold himself and also to independently go potty when he is supposed to.

           Obedience Training

Naturally, the boxer breed tends to be obedient but because of their playful nature, they may disregard your instructions or commands with kid gloves. Without consciously training him to understand that your authority has to be recognized, it will get used to playfully disobeying your commands. Hence, it is important that boxer dog owners are strict about the rules and commands they make. You must be able to ensure that he abides by your commands and has no control over you. During leash training, you can start by teaching him to obey your basic commands to “move,” “stop,” “sit,” etc. From that point, you can train him to have an idea of the things he is expected not to do.

Though it is important to train your boxer dog to recognize your authority, it is very important that you do not hit or yell at him. Most times, inflicting pain on your puppy would not help him learn. On the contrary, this would make him afraid of you, making it difficult for you to interact with him effectively.

Training to Recognize Places that Are Out of Bounds

If there are parts of your home or yard that you wouldn’t like your boxer dog to go, it is important that you make him understand this early. Ensure you create a barricade large and strong enough to keep him away from moving to such places. At other times, you can consciously walk him to the entrance or edge of such places, let him stay at the boundary for a while, and then walk him away. Otherwise, you can constantly walk him everywhere else in the yard or home while ensuring that the boundaries are strictly respected. This routine will help your boxer dog understand that there are places he isn’t expected to visit. However, the dog could be confused when there are too many boundaries. Helping him understand that there are only one or two places he isn’t allowed to move to would be just fine.

Always Apply the “Supervise or Confine” Principle

You must always keep an eye on your boxer dog puppy just as you’d watch over a baby. This is necessary because they are, unlike older dogs, unable to stay away from danger for a long time. It is also important if you would let them roam about in the house. Besides, it is through a habit of constantly supervising the puppy that you are able to understand certain important facts about his behavior. For instance, you would not be able to observe or tell when he is ready to go potty without constant supervision. At the points in time when you wouldn’t be available to supervise him, then it is advisable to keep him in a confined but safe area.

           The Reward System

If there is any system that helps your puppy know what he is expected to do, it is the reward system. To constantly reward your puppy when he does something right is to let him know that you are happy with him. For instance, every time he obeys your simple commands to “sit,” “catch,” etc., a little treat as a reward will help him know that you are happy with him. Thus, he is encouraged to obey your commands at all times.

           Behavior is Important

Do you have plans to get a Boxer dog and you are thinking about what it would be like to own this dog breed? Or you already have one, and you would like to know more about his or her behavior? Would you like to know about Boxer behavior generally so that you can handle your beloved boxer better? This article will answer all of these; so, keep reading to know more about boxer dog behavior.

Each recognized dog breed has behaviors particular to them, and this is one of the defining characteristics that set each dog breed apart and makes them special.

The Popularity of the Boxer Breed

When you set your sights on the Boxer dog breed, it has a stunning and imposing appearance. It looks sleek, powerful and large – and it barks loudly. If you need the perfect watchdog, choose a boxer; and if you need a wonderful companion, the boxer breed plays this role excellently well. Whether your family is small or large, a boxer will get along with everyone in the family, and if there are other dogs, your boxer will live with them peacefully. Even if you have cats, some boxers have no qualms sharing the same home with them.

Is the Boxer Breed Suitable for You? Some Boxer Behavior to Always Remember

Of course, the Boxer is a great breed to own and is quite popular in the United States because of its size; there are some things that you should always remember.

           Boxer Puppies Are always Excited

Boxer puppies enjoy bouncing and jumping around. They are always very active, and if you are a lover of active puppies and a large one at that, the Boxer dog breed is suitable for you. If you have a lot of expensive items in your home or you are the type of person who loves to keep things organized and tidy, a boxer dog hopping around actively may not be suitable for you.

Boxer Dogs Make a lot of Interesting Noises

           Having a boxer dog often means you are ready to sacrifice peace and quietness. Boxers are in no way quiet as they make a variety of amusing noises. If you love these noises and can deal with them, then a boxer is for you. The boxer dog breed has a wide nose and a flat face, and because of the shape of its head and face, your boxer dog will regularly do the following;

            Snorting

            Grunting

            Sneezing

            Snoring

            Whining

            Passing Gas loudly.

The Boxer is a Stubborn Breed

Generally, your boxer dog will display a great deal of stubbornness and disregard for rules. You may have a hard time getting your Boxer to follow every command and even sometimes disregard you totally. However, by being patient and consistent, boxer dog training is possible. If your boxer dog refuses to listen, the best strategy is to continue to teach and reinforce hierarchy properly.

A boxer is not an easy breed to own so, stay away from this breed if the easy way is what you seek. A boxer requires effort and constant interaction to be fully trained. If you are prepared for these, you can get yourself a boxer.

The Boxer Breed Can be Destructive

Even a human being becomes restless if they do not get something engaging, fun or entertaining to do for hours. If you are going to raise a boxer, you must be ready to have a range of daily activities to engage in such as exercises and walks to keep his or her heart in top shape, maintain muscle mass and get rid of stored energy. You also have to keep up with the grooming of your Boxer to make sure his or her coat and skin are healthy; regular baths, meals and playtime with interesting toys. If your Boxer gets maximum attention from you when you are around, he or she will behave well in your absence.

           Separation Anxiety

This is a thing that happens in both adult and boxer puppies. If you always leave your boxer dog at home for too long every time, separation anxiety can occur. For some dogs, ten minutes alone may be too much for them to handle while some begin to feel nervous after some hours.

If you have observed your Boxer to be sensitive to being left alone, you can put him through some boxer training to cope with being alone. You can start by doing without the hugs and kisses when leaving him alone. This is to avoid giving him the feeling that leaving is a big deal. No matter the amount of attention you give to your boxer dog, withdraw the attention at least 30 minutes before leaving him or her behind in the house so he can get used to your absence.

After feeding your dog and you take him out to defecate, find a way to leave quietly. You can throw him a toy to distract him. Start by leaving him for some minutes and then gradually increase the time. Every time you return, do not make a big deal out of it. Enter calmly and greet your Boxer in a relaxed tone. You need your dog to see your leaving and coming back as normal things to do.

           Living with Other Dogs

The Boxer breed generally has no problems if they have to live with other dogs. Two boxer dogs will do well with each other, and if your Boxer is already established, you should first test to see how he or she tolerates another dog before bringing a new dog home. However, most Boxer dogs do remarkably well when it comes to living with other dogs and interacting with them.

           Internal Environment

Before you take your boxer dog home, you must first consider space. The average Boxer can cope in a small living space, but if you have a larger living space, it makes things even better. The Boxer breed is a playful animal and will enjoy having a large space to run and play around. If you do not have a lot of space in your living room, you have to think about when your puppy grows into a large adult because even adult Boxers love playing around.

           SOME FAQS ABOUT BOXER BEHAVIOR

Why does my Boxer get into a crouch position and starts walking slowly when she sees another dog walking towards us?

This is your Boxer’s way of inviting the other dog to play or engage in a friendly manner. Your Boxer seems to be open to having playmates, and this is good for socializing.

Why is my one-year-old Boxer yet to bark?

Many boxers do not bark but instead do all the protection and intimidation with their size. Some boxers are easy going and quite laid back and will never bark unnecessarily. As long as your Boxer does not show any signs of health problems, you have nothing to worry about.

My Boxer is always hiccupping? What can I do to stop it?

Just like humans, dogs too get hiccups, and in most cases, the hiccups do not last for long. In some rare cases, the hiccups may go on for long, and it could start making your dog frustrated. If your Boxer shows signs of being bothered and frustration due to the spasms in his or her diaphragms, you can get some smooth peanut butter and give him a spoonful. This works in most cases.

SOME ADDITIONAL BOXER BEHAVIOR THAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

           Begging Behavior

Make sure you do not indulge this kind of habit. If your Boxer believes that he or she will always get something delicious anytime he/she asks for it; the begging may never stop. You should find out some boxer dog training methods on how to stop begging.

           Always Going Outside

Boxers are very active and love to run around but if your Boxer is always going outside, make sure you follow him/her. You should never leave your Boxer outside unsupervised.

           Intolerance to Cold

Any breed of dog can be affected by cold and big-sized dogs like the Boxer breed is not exempted. Keep your Boxer active and well-exercised. Encourage your boxer puppy or dog to stay outdoors and fight the cold. If it gets unbearable, take your dog inside immediately.

While it may look like playful behavior, it is a behavior that you should curb. It is common to have an enthusiastic dog who leaps up at people to greet them. You can try out some effective Boxer training methods to put a stop to this behavior.

Drooling is somewhat expected from Boxers, but there has to be a limit. Know how much drooling is normal and how much is excessive, and do something about it right away.

Barking at the Mailman At one point we’ve all been the neighbor to someone with a dog who barks at everything. Bringing your new boxer puppy home is always a fun and exciting time for the whole family. When your new puppy comes home it’s often scary to think about all the stuff that comes with having a new puppy. One thing many owners often don’t think of is dental health for their new puppy. It’s important to keep up with your boxer’s dental health so that your boxer doesn’t develop several serious health problems such as bacterial infections, abscess teeth, kidney damage or joint problems.

As your puppy grows their needs for dental health will change as the boxer grows from a puppy into a full-grown dog. When your puppy is born, they have no teeth that have erupted through their gums yet. By six weeks your puppy has most of the milk his teeth. After that, the boxer will begin teething this is when the milk teeth begin to fall out and his permanent teeth being to come in. During this time is when dogs often begin to chew on things and it is a good idea to keep bones around for them to chew and play with to help their new teeth come through and over some relief from the pain and itchy the new teeth are causing them.

Most people think that either bone clean a dog’s teeth or they clean their teeth themselves however this is not the case. It’s important to get your boxer on a schedule of when you’ll brush their teeth and it should be done daily in order to keep your boxer’s teeth and gums strong and healthy. When beginning to brush your boxer’s teeth it is important to remember a few key things. Never use human toothpaste, there are many kinds of toothpaste designed specifically for your boxer. The sooner you start this habit with your boxer even from a puppy the easier and more efficient it will be and your boxer will become more and more used to it, have patience as this will take some time for your dog to get used to this process.

Though it may be rough at first don’t give up, with time your boxer will get used to this process. To ensure you’re boxer has the best oral care it’s important to care for their teeth and gums properly even though your boxer may not enjoy having their teeth brushed, the time will come where it’s not so much of a chore but rather routine for your new boxer.

  Feeding Your Boxer

When you get a new boxer puppy it can sometimes be hard to know what they like and don’t like to eat verses what they should and shouldn’t eat. This task can often be overwhelming to some new puppy parents, but it doesn’t have to be with a few simple rules to follow. Keep in mind that at each phase of your boxer puppy’s life into adulthood they need different things to keep them growing healthy and strong so that your boxer can have the best life possible.

From the age of 4 to 8 weeks boxer puppies need to still be nursing off their mother however at 4 weeks is when solid foods are often started to be transitioned into their daily diet. The food should be soft and mushy at this point as they are still young and need to be transitioned into hard dog food.

By 8 weeks your puppy should be used to solid food. From 8 weeks to 6 months is a crucial point in their growth so proper feeding is important. Whether buying food from the store or making it yourself at home here are somethings to consider. The main ingredient should be one or more combined of lean meats such as white chicken breasts, lean hamburger, turkey or any other lean meat. Next, it’s important to include some vegetables such as carrots, broccoli, potatoes or sweet peas. Boxers also need a starch such as pasta which is loaded with nutrients that your boxer needs. You can also feed your boxer fruits that are filled with antioxidants such as mangos, pears and watermelon. During the puppy phase it’s important to make sure to pack your boxer’s diet with all the foods they need to help them grow up to be healthy and strong.

At age 2 your boxer is considered an adult. At this stage you no longer need to over feed your boxer. It’s recommended that you should still feed your boxer 2 times a day smaller portions to avoid bloating. Don’t be alarmed if as your boxer gets older, they slowdown in their eating. Some boxers will eat the same amount however they won’t eat as quickly as they did as a pup.

Follow these simple instructions and you’ll be set to offer you boxer with healthy eating habits starting at a young age. These habits will last into adulthood giving your boxer the best health they can receive.

Winter is in full swing and if you live where the temperatures drop its time to make sure that your boxer is taken care of even with the temperatures dropping. While a chilly day here or there won’t affect your boxer, weeks and months of cold weather can. You may notice a change in their fur, paws, and nose. Your boxer may also become restless having to be inside more than there used to due to the colder weather.

Though the weather outside may affect your boxer it’s also important to keep in mind the humidity in the house can affect them as well. Often times your dogs’ skin can become dryer than normal causing them to itch more frequently or lick themselves obsessively. Aside from their skin, high humidity levels can cause breathing issues in boxers as the warm air dries out them out and can cause dry scratchy throats. To combat this, owners often run a humidifier in the areas that their boxer frequents the most. Its recommended that if you can’t run a humidifier all the time to run one at night while your boxer sleeps.

Boxers aren’t a breed that typically enjoys the colder weather. This makes taking your boxer out in the winter a much harder task. To help your boxer during the winter getting them a sweater or something warm when they go outside can make them feel more comfortable. Do the best you can to let your boxer run off energy while outside, bundle up and play in the snow with them for a while to help them release some of their high energy.

If you notice a decrease in appetite from your boxer during the winter months this can be normal as they may not be getting as much exercise as they are used to. This isn’t a huge cause for concern as your boxer is just self-regulating their body to accommodate their food supply based on their activities.

During the winter months, it’s important to take care of your boxer’s nose and paws with special care. To protect their paws, you can apply paw wax to add a barrier to their paws from the snow. For their noses, you’ll want to prevent their noses from chapping or cracking. The key is to keep their nose hydrated with nose balm so that they don’t dry out.

Prevention is key, take these steps to ensure that your boxer has the most pleasant experience during the winter months.

When the war was over some of the soldiers brought some of these dogs home where the breed began to gain popularity. Since this time boxers have become an extremely recognizable breed and have gained popularity as being great family dogs as they protect and guard while still providing love and affection.

Boxers tend to weigh about 65-80lbs for male boxers and for female boxers anywhere from 50-65lbs. Same when it comes to heights females tend to be slightly smaller than the male boxers. Boxers come in a variety of different colorings and, but the fawn color is the most commonly known color for boxers. Often boxers don’t bark much but they do drool often. They’re very attention seeking dogs and require lots of social time with their owners.

Boxers require lots of attention and compassion. They also need exercise, or it can lead to bad behaviors that can be destructive to your home. The life expectancy of this breed is around 10 years, some live longer and some live shorter it just depends on the dog, but the general life expectancy is 10 years.

Although this dogs love to be social, they don’t however enjoy strangers. They are extremely protective over their owners and their families and can get fierce when it comes to other people being around their owners.

Something to in mind is that boxers are intolerant of hot weather. They require special care to make sure that they don’t overheat. They also don’t handle the extremely cold weather well as they have very short coats. They’re coats are very easy to take care and will be shiny and bright as long as they have a good diet, have occasional baths and are brushed sometimes.

Boxer puppies are a great addition to any family providing a loving dog that will protect your family. Boxers make good guard dogs that are still lovable and desire attention from their owners. They can be hyper but with the proper exercise they can be amazing pets for years to come.
